Taking notes with Alfred and Tinderbox
I’ve been using for several weeks now DEVONthink Pro, a data management application that I use to gather and organize documents such as PDF, pictures, videos, etc. DEVONthink Pro has a quick entry that offers the possibility to take notes on the fly, with a simple keyboard shortcut, from the application with which I’m currently working. When it comes to archive a web page without leaving my web browser, this feature is particularly effective. However, I was not able to make DEVONthink Pro my day-to-day note-taking app. Its (nice) interface doesn’t suit me and I returned to my sweet Tinderbox home and work environment, my favorite note-taking app for several years. Unfortunately, unlike applications such as DEVONthink Pro or Omnifocus, Tinderbox has no quick entry. Therefore, to make a note, you have to go into the application. It’s not a problem at all, but as I like to move very swiftly between multiple open apps, I searched for a way to achieve this. Precisely, Alfred, an application launcher that I use instead of Spotlight, facilitates this process. In this way, using a simple keyboard shortcut, I can use Tinderbox as an inbox, exactly as I use to do with Omnifocus or DEVONthink Pro.

J’utilise depuis plusieurs semaines DEVONthink Pro, une application de gestion de données dont je me sers pour rassembler et organiser des documents tels que des pdf, des images, des vidéos, etc. DEVONthink Pro dispose d’une entrée rapide qui permet de prendre des notes au vol, au moyen d’un simple raccourci clavier, depuis l’application de son choix. Quand il s’agit d’archiver une page web sans quitter son navigateur, cette fonctionnalité est particulèrement efficace. En revanche, je ne suis pas parvenu à faire de DEVONthink Pro mon application courante de prise de notes. Son interface, plutôt réussie par ailleurs, ne me convient pas. Je suis donc tout naturellement revenu à Tinderbox, mon application fétiche depuis plusieurs années. Malheureusement, contrairement à des applications telles que DEVONthink pro ou Omnifocus, Tinderbox ne dispose pas d’entrée rapide. Pour prendre une note, il faut donc se rendre dans l’application. Ce n’est pas en soi un problème. Cependant, comme j’aime me déplacer très rapidement d’une application à l’autre, j’ai cherché un moyen d’obtenir ce flux-là. Alfred permet précisément de faciliter ce processus. Alfred est un lanceur d’application que j’utilise en remplacement de Spotlight. De cette manière, au moyen d’un simple raccourci clavier, je peux me servir de Tinderbox comme de la boîte de réception d’Omnifocus ou de DEVONthink Pro.
